Meet Monty: A Boy Who Loves the Ladies
Monty is a beautiful and affectionate dachshund with a heart that bonds deeply with the women in his life. When he first came to us three months ago, he was terrified of men. His past has likely included mistreatment by a male, leaving him with a fear that still affects him today.
Monty's Journey
After arriving in our care, Monty was placed with one of our most experienced foster carers. Despite their dedication and the advice of a behavioural vet (including trials of calming medications), Monty remained frightened of the father in the household. It became clear that Monty needed a home with just one female caregiver.
That change made all the difference. Monty moved into a home with a single woman and another dachshund, and it was as though a weight had been lifted. He was slowly weaned off his medications, given plenty of love, and showered with playtime. Monty now spends his days playing nonstop with his dachshund housemate, only pausing for naps and a little rest before starting all over again. He even enjoys the company of the neighbourhood kids, who regularly visit for playtime in the yard.
A New Monty
Monty’s confidence has grown significantly, and he now shows positive affection toward visiting men—proof of the incredible progress he’s made. Recently, two of our senior team members met Monty at the vet, and he was an absolute darling, happily greeting both people and dogs.
Is He “Cured”?
Like all rescues, and specially the one that has had around 3 homes before arriving to us: Monty has his quirks and will always carry some emotional baggage. He remains on the anxious side, but with continued love and patience, he’ll flourish. We believe Monty would do best in a home with a female owner or an all-female household, where he can form that special one-on-one bond. While he enjoys the company of his dachshund foster siblings, Monty is ultimately a boy who thrives with a calm, loving female presence.
What Monty Loves
- Great with kids and enjoys playtime.
- Gets along with other dachshunds and is good with cats (mostly ignores them).
- Loves snuggles, scratches, and constant affection—he would be happiest on your lap.
- Playful yet content to nap nearby when you’re relaxing.
Monty loves to please, and when you call he does come. Yes, that’s rare in dachshunds and means he will be a pleasure to train.
Monty may have had a rough start, but he’s ready for a fresh chapter full of love and care. If you're looking for a loyal, affectionate companion, Monty could be the perfect addition to your home.
