A big hello to all our supporters 🐾,
I don’t think it's much of a secret that over the last 3 months or so, D2DR has been through one of its toughest periods from a financial viewpoint in its 9.5 years of existence. Since early May, D2DR has had a total of 7 dachshunds surrendered to us requiring surgery for IVDD. Additionally, another 2 dachshunds who had been in permanent foster care with D2DR, went down for the second time with IVDD which required surgery. During this time, we’ve also done 2 pes varus operations, a major eye operation, dealt with a dachshund surrendered to us with a broken leg and another with an internal obstruction requiring lifesaving surgery. This is of course just our rescue dogs with another 40+ dachshunds surrendered to D2DR since May for rehoming all requiring vet checks plus vaccinations and desexing (where required).
And with all this activity comes the consequences – the vet bills. Just this morning we received ARH’s bill for July. This – when combined with their bills for May and June – has resulted in a vet bill over the last 3 months from ARH alone totalling $81,222. That’s an average of nearly $1,000 per day for the last 3 months – from just one vet.
And this is why D2DR has – without any apology whatsoever – has higher adoption fees for our dogs than other “rescue” groups, council and pound govt subsidies and why we spend so much time and effort fundraising. Visit our Facebook page and you will see just how much fundraising we do.
And that defines D2DR as a true rescue organization and not just a rehoming service.
In this email we have stories happy endings, events, giveaways and more.

Featured Adoption
Some of you may remember a few days ago that there was in the Townsville Dachshund f/b group, that there was a pair of Dachshund x Wolfhounds in the Burdekin Council Pound, and we made contact and were approved to take them. Our longtime foster carers Lindy and David Collins went to collect them yesterday, dirty and full of fleas, she bathed them and flea/ ticked them, and they are booked in for desex and vaccinations on Monday. Cindy dark red, and her sibling brother Tiny blonde/red, are a loving pair, very bonded, sadly they were dumped at the pound and left in dropboxes so we don't have much information, they are not microchipped and appear to be around 2 years or younger. Naturally they will be up for adoption soon.
