Ruby and Oreo: A Dashing Mini Dachshund Duo

Ruby: Dapple, Short Hair Female Dachshund - 9years (DOB 1/12/2016) old weighing 7.25kg

Oreo: Black & Tan, Short Hair Male Dachshund - 3years old (DOB 3/3/2023) male weighing 6.95kg

 All about Ruby Oreo

This duo is both intelligent and playful, who combines independence with affection. Their bright, curious nature makes them delightful companions who have already shown significant progress integrating with other dachshunds in the foster home. Orea is a bit of a lady’s man 😊

Ruby is a quick but cautious learner who responds instantly to her name especially when treats are involved. Whilst they can be independent and enjoys exploring the yard she also loves snuggling on the couch with their humans. They have no particular interest in toys and are not “chewers” of furniture.

 She has been an outside dog at her first home but enjoys some of the finer comforts when she is let in at night spending time with foster family.  When approached she tends to roll over and submit but we take the opportunity to give a belly rub to ease the issue. Ruby has also shown some dominance to older dogs in the group but responds to instruction is she gets a little too bossy. True alpha girl. She is food aggressive with other dogs so should eat in her own.

Oreo is a little slower to learn but responds instantly to his name especially when treats are involved!!. He can be a little submissive but is eager to interact with you when approached. He is very bonded to his older sister whom he has grown up with. A little slow to learn how to use the dog door (no previous experience) but now aces it with ease.

 House Training: Well on their way to being fully house trained, reliably using the yard during daytime hours. Nighttime routine involves walk in yard before bed in the crate. Ruby is reluctant to voluntarily go in the crate so is placed in there with a treat. Oreo hops in straight away. Sleep together through the night.

Lead Skills: Comfortable in harness and on lead with minimal pulling.

Social Skills: No issues in meeting new people other than initial reluctance. Initially cautious but warms up with patience and treats. Initial introduction to other dogs are cautious but reaction is minimal.

Exercise: Enjoy active playtime and walks in the yard. Oreo likes to initiate play with Ruby and can be “Zoomie” at times. Roby happy to wander around. Oreo a typical dachshund, barks at strangers and other animals that pass the house.

Neither are fans of birds but can be coached to ignore. Not cat tested.
