Hi Everyone 🐾,
This month I thought I would dedicate to our Foster Carers both Temporary and Permanent, some of our foster carers have been with us for many many years, always chipping in when needed if possible, sometimes doubling up when we are hammered to the limit, we still find someone to help out even if it’s driving or a few nights till we get sorted.
We are indebted to our foster carers, for their caring, loving support, to all our surrenders.
Again please accept our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you, we could not do what we do if not for you.
A very special thank you to our foster carer coordinators who do a mammoth job in keeping everyone and everything together; as well as our dachshunds drivers who drop everything to pick up a dachshund.
We're thrilled to announce that our community is growing stronger every day! Thanks to your incredible support, we now have 410 members and 26 Angel Members dedicated to helping dachshunds in need🎉
Foster Caring
Being a foster carer is one of the most rewarding jobs you’ll ever experience, and when you need to care for their health just a tad more and watch them rehabilitate and recuperate back to a healthy self after surgery is even more gratifying.
Being in an organisation like D2DR that has over 200 fosters throughout Australia with its own private foster carers page along with 24/7 support and interaction, with all medical and rehabilitation needs covered by the charity, so you have no worries and can just get on with the job at hand. Whether you are one of our permanent foster carers or transient fosters the experience is so rewarding.
You’ll make new friends and go through so many experiences and memories together. You’ll see and read of so many dachshunds in care, the joy and the tribulations; and you’ll learn a lifetime of doggy issues, training and medical issues that will give you so much more confidence with your own dachshund/s and helping others.

IVDD EMERGENCY LAST NIGHT (12/06/24)
MEET LITTLY POPPY 5 ½ yrs
Poppy was diagnosed with IVDD Grade 2 on Sunday 9th June, her owners crated and medicated her in the hope that she would settle, however unfortunately by yesterday her conditioned worsened and when we got the call for help at 5:10 pm Poppy was incontinent and unable to walk. Her owners were distraught and asked for assistance. How can you ignore that little face and plea for help? Lucky for Poppy she was local in Brisbane and after a short conversation with the D2DR board it was evident that if we didn’t step in this little girl would lose her battle without emergency surgery.
