Hi, I’m Randy — A Brave Little Dachshund Ready for My Forever Family
18 months • Male 5.7kg • Short-haired Red Dachshund
My story is one of resilience, gratitude, and incredible transformation. I did not have the best start to my life.
I haven’t had the easiest start to life. When I was found, I was terrified… skinny, shaking, and too scared even to drink water. I didn’t understand what safety felt like. But everything changed when I came into foster care. With patience, safety, and routine, my foster mom says I have blossomed into a clever, loyal, affectionate young dachshund who’s now ready to find the loving home I truly deserve.
I’m a loyal, brave, loving little man who has survived so much and still has a heart overflowing with affection. I just want a safe home, gentle hands, and someone who understands that I’m still healing — but I’m already such a joyful, grateful companion.
I’m a clever, loyal, affectionate little guy with a big heart and an even bigger desire to be close to my humans. I’m very smart and watch everything around me and love learning new things. I’m faithful and affectionate and will be your constant shadow.
I’m good with cats (even if I sometimes try to steal their food… I used to be hungry, but I’m learning!) and love other dogs I live with three and often play with two more. Fun Fun Fun!
I’m discovering how fun toys are, especially balls my personal favorite. I can be a little cunning I sometimes sneak toys from one of my dog friends and hide them!
I’ve mastered the dog door and house-trained go me! I can also use puppy pads if needed but really prefer outside. I’m great in the car safely buckled in. I like kids, but I prefer older ones who play gently and don’t chase me or wave sticks because this scares me.
I’ve come such a long way and now I’m a happy, playful little boy who just wants to be loved.
I learn super-fast; head massages and belly rubs my best! I really like to sleep under the blankets near your feet, but I move around and often end up in my cozy bed under a desk nearby. I really enjoy a hooded or cave-style bed.
I’m still practicing walking nicely on the lead I get excited and like to switch sides but I’m improving every day.
I take my job as “family alarm system” seriously I’ll happily tell you when someone is approaching! I’ll help keep you safe, but I’m not aggressive.
I enjoy meeting new people, though sometimes I bark at someone if I’m unsure. Once I know I’m safe, I warm up quickly.
I would thrive in a home that offers:
A loving, understanding family who sees how far I’ve come
A calm, structured environment routine makes me feel safe
Someone happy to keep up my home-cooked food diet
Gentle reassurance and patience as I continue learning about food and drinking
A secure yard and easy access for toilet breaks (dog doors are great!)
Older children who understand that sometimes animals can get frightened
Plenty of cuddles, belly rubs, kindness, and time spent together
I have an active mind and love exploring, so a family who enjoys adventures would make me really happy.
