Hi, meet Sausage!Sausage is a delightful, loving and cuddly boy whose favourite things include snoozing on the couch with his humans and exploring the backyard.  Sausage is obedient and will sit on command but does not always stay as asked. He is very food oriented and will be easy to train with small pieces of chicken (his favourite) as he is eager to please.

He loves breakfast and dinner time  - he eats a measured amount of Purina Supercoat Adult Chicken dog kibble at each meal. When his humans leave the house and at bedtime, Sausage has been trained to run to his bed on request where we'll receive a thin slice of raw zucchini.

Sausage was diagnosed with diabetes a few months ago so it's important that he not eat any other foods, although proteins, such as chicken are allowed as training rewards or as a special treat. All in all, Sausage is the perfect Dachshund, he's an incredibly loyal and happy boy.  He is an absolute delight to have around and thrives on love and affection, and regular walks. He goes to a small dog park regularly and enjoys the companionship of all humans, particularly children, and other friendly dogs.Personality Highlights:
Sausage sleeps right through the night with no issues, although access to the backyard via a doggy door for bathroom breaks is needed. As with most dogs, Sausage requires gentle introductions to other dogs, but after a few minutes he'll play beautifully with any calm and well-behaved dog. He has no anxiety or separation issues that we are aware of.  He is happy to be left alone with other dogs but has not been tested on his own. Having said that he did come from a single dog home so this isn't anticipated.  He is thriving being in a home with other dogs.

The ideal home for him would have another dog and/or children.Current Training Progress:- House Training: Sausage is house trained with a doggy door but has the odd accident.  This mostly happens if it's raining (a common dachshund trait) or if the doggie door, is blocked/locked. In addition, Sausage very quickly learned to use a ramp to go onto and down from the couch. -

Lead Skills: Sausage is a dream on the lead and loves his walks.  He is not aggressive and doesn't even bark at other dogs.- Social Skills: Sausage is friendly to all humans and dogs with the exception of dogs that display aggressive behaviour towards him. Introducing him in the right way is the key to success.

Daily Care:- Diet: As described above, it's important that Sausage is maintained on his strict diet as he is a diabetic.  Breakfast and dinner should be 12 hours apart but can be given earlier or later to accommodate his humans' social life. Sausage's foster parents will provide the guidance on this, as per vet instructions. Sausage loves water but shouldn't be given access to any other type of liquid.- Medication: Sausage gets an injection of insulin twice a day with each meal. Sausage's foster parents will provide the guidance on this, as per vet instructions

Weight: Vet advice is for Sausage to weigh 9.2-9.5kg. This weight and the amount of food he is currently on are optimal for his insulin dose. - Exercise: Enjoys active playtime and walks.-

Behaviour: No food or toy aggression.Sausage would flourish in a home that offers:- A loving environment but he is not attention seeking.  He is happy to be with you but also loves being outside in the sun on his own.

- Canine companionship, as he enjoys the company of other dogs- A home with children as that is where he came from and he just adores all children he has come across.- A secure yard for exercise and bathroom breaks.

Health Status:- Insulin- dependent diabetes. - Early signs of cataracts in his eyes due to the diabetes. He has no sight issues at this stage.- Low grade heart murmur. He is not exhibiting any effects from this and does not require any medication for it.

Desexed.- Fully vaccinated,  wormed and microchipped.
Sausage comes with his own bed and blankets, an outdoor kennel, harness and leash.  Any remaining food, insulin and syringes that the foster parents have for him will also be provided. After the two week trial period, ongoing costs will be the responsibility of Sausage's new owners.

ADOPTION FEE: To be discussed upon inquiry which must be a formal application in the first instance, F/B messages and email messages will not be replied to unless it accompanies a formal adoption application.
