Hello everyone,

The past month since are last newsletter we have welcomed into our D2DR fold some 27 dachshunds, and the beautiful birth of Luna’s 7 pups all heathy and growing, now 2 weeks old and opening their eyes. Finding foster carers is very challenging for the team, as we also have our “helping hand” program which ensures any dachshund needing help with accommodation whilst their owners are finding suitable accommodation through this very tough phase in housing and family matters.

We appreciate all the help we can get by dachshund families opening up their hearts and homes to help us facilitate our D2DR “open door policy" of “no dachshund is left behind”. If you are able to foster, please let us know, if you are not able to foster there are many other ways you can help us, by joining our Angel Membership with a small monthly donation, this enables us to help manage our challenging vet and specialist bills, with so many dachshunds needing vet care, even a 1 off donation assists us. Helping us fundraise, volunteering to assist with our events, driving dachshunds to vet appointments and helping with transport, all these little things help us so much. Once again we thank you all for your ongoing support to D2DR.

In this email we have stories, happy endings, events, giveaways and more.

Luna, Ramon and their little family

On the 1st of September we had the pleasure of welcoming in Luna and her 7 gorgeous healthy puppies, now 2 1/2 weeks old they are starting to open their eyes and are a joy to watch.

Luna did everything herself and is a wonderful calm mummy to her 7 pups, at 2 days old they were fully vet checked at our vets at Brookfield and have now tripled their healthy weights at birth.

Last weekend Luna and Ramon were re united for a chance for Ramon to meet his little family, a lovely kiss was shared between the two, however Ramon was quite reserved upon meeting his little family.

You can follow Luna’s story featured many times on our Facebook Page for updates.

Happy Endings

Many of you will recall we had Lil Honey puppy in for eye surgery this year, which was very successful and has now been adopted!!!

“We have had the pleasure of adopting honey about a month and a half ago now. We have a 3.5yo choc and tan daschie called Roly who is honey’s new brother. Roly has loved having an energetic crazy little sister to keep him active! Honey loves chewing our furniture, doing Zoomies in the yard and barking at anybody who dares to walk past our front gates.”

Raya's Story

Meet our newest rescue, Raya, a 2-year-old female dachshund whose name means "Ray of Sunshine." As the breed-specific rescue partner for the RSPCA, D2DR was contacted to take in Raya, who was part of a puppy farm raid. Severely undernourished and with little to no human interaction, she was deemed unsuitable for rehoming through the RSPCA. Recognising her bond with small dogs, we decided to place her with our long-term foster carer, Laura Leaver, and her family, who already care for two of our IVDD foster dachshunds, Wilbur and Ari. Raya was welcomed by her new foster family, but her physical and emotional condition reveals the heartbreaking neglect she has suffered. While her physical wounds can be treated, her emotional recovery will take time. But one thing is for sure—she will never suffer again.

Raya’s story highlights the ongoing issue of unethical puppy mills, which exploit animals for profit under appalling conditions. The only way to combat this is to support ethical breeding practices, such as purchasing from ANKC-registered breeders and personally inspecting breeding conditions. At D2DR, we currently have over 40 dachshunds available for adoption, all of whom have been fully vet checked and are waiting for their forever homes. Please consider adopting and giving a dachshund the loving home they deserve.

Overbreeding - A Major Animal Welfare Issue
Overbreeding involves breeding an animal more than its body can safely handle resulting in detrimental health effects to the mother and her puppies.
