Slinky is a happy boy who loves the garden and hunting and exploring. We watch him with toads though and he did catch a rat for us (what a dog!). He has a big heart and doesn’t realise his own size and strength. He loves cuddles and affection and just arrives on your lap with a happy big bound and a big wet kiss. He loves sitting and lying next to his humans.
Like most dachshunds, Slinky hates rain and equally is not at all impressed with wet grass. He seems to have got the outside toilet routine working well now in the “dry” weather. We have perfumed the few spots he was marking inside and all is going well. (it was suggested we use our old perfume/aftershave and we sprayed the wooden leg of the table and corners of the blanket box, and cloth covered sponge step ramps so these items contained our scent!)
Night time meal us a half cup of a Leaps and Bounds variety with toppers/mixers like yoghurt, sardines, bits of other doggie safe foods. He is crate trained and jumps into bed at night for a treat 😊 He loves treats. He is a dachshund, he just loves food!
Slinky is still learning basic commands but has worked out “sit” when he sees the other fosters siblings getting treats for sitting – monkey see monkey do learning. He can be a bit quick to grab the treats but we are constantly working on “gentle”. Slinky walks quite well on collar and lead.
Slinky showed a bit of crankiness (sneering) in the first week when he arrived and didn’t want to get off the lounge but that appears to have been the new surrounds and it hasn’t happened again. I took Slinky a full 3 weeks to really settle and not be worried about his new surrounds. He has happily accepted new fosters after being introduced in our yard on a lead. Slinky is great with people and with kids. He is not food aggressive. He likes other dachshunds at our place but not sure about other dogs.
