Violet - 6 yrs - Wild Boar Silky Wire Female - DOB 01/10/2019 - 5.2kg

LOCATION: Templestowe VIC 3106 - Available for meet & greet

Hi, meet Violet!
Violet is a beautiful, wild boar coloured, silky wire-haired dachshund.  She is a sweet, loving and cuddly girl who adores being with her favourite humans. In true dachshund style she loves to hunt lizards in the backyard and protect the house from birds. She is crazy for car trips and walks too, making her a fantastic cafe dog.

Violet is a smart girl and quick learner. She comes when called and will 'stay' on most occasions. She has learnt to use a ramp onto the couch and is a pro at the doggy door.  She's very food oriented and eager to please so further training should be easy.

All in all, Violet is the perfect Dachshund as she’s incredibly loyal and happy.  She's an absolute delight to have around and thrives on love and affection and regular walks. She goes to a small dog park regularly and enjoys the companionship of other friendly dogs, especially dachshunds. She is wary of strangers at first but warms up to them quickly as soon as she realises they are friendly.
Personality Highlights:

  • Violet sleeps right through the night with no issues, although access to the backyard via a doggy door for bathroom breaks is needed.
  • She has mild anxiety when her humans leave the house, exhibited by barking but this soon settles down and she is happy to be with the other dogs. She has not been tested home alone.
  • A former breeding dog, Violet is very maternal. She is very nurturing of the other dogs she currently lives with and always snuggles up to them for a cuddle and/or nap. The ideal home for her would have another dog +/- older children.
  • She has a very strong prey drive so will not suit a home with cats, small animals or birds.
  • She has a tendency to cower to the floor if she thinks she'll be hit (a sad product of her upbringing) but we are seeing this less and less as she has learned to love and trust her foster family members.

Current Training Progress:

  • House Training: Violet is house trained with a doggy door but has the odd accident.  This mostly happens if it's raining (a common dachshund trait) or if the doggie door is blocked/locked. In addition, Violet very quickly learned to use a ramp to go onto and down from the couch.
  • Lead Skills: She's great on lead and loves her walks.  She's not aggressive and doesn't bark at other dogs.
  • Social Skills: She is friendly to all humans and dogs with the right introduction.

Daily Care:

  • Violet is fed a large handful of dry food morning and night. She is currently on Pedigree Adult kibble.  When her humans leave the house and at bedtime, Violet adores a Scooby Snack or other treat. She has not learnt to like carrots yet!
  • Weight: 5.2kg
  • Coat: Silky wire hair coats don't enable the undercoat to shed naturally. Thus, her coat must be managed by daily brushing and professional grooming to ensure the coat remains in good health and doesn't cause any potential issues to Violet's health.
  • Exercise: Enjoys active playtime and walks.
  • Sleep: Settles well through the night in own bed, or sneaking in with her foster dog brothers. She is crate trained but has not slept in a locked crate since being with her foster family.
  • Behaviour: No food or toy aggression.

Violet would flourish in a home that offers:

  • A loving and kind environment.  She is happy to be with you but also loves being outside on her own.
  • Canine companionship, as she's spent her life with other dogs.
  • Human company most of the time.
  • A secure yard for exercise and bathroom breaks.

Health Status:

  • No known health issues.
  • Desexed.
  • C5 vaccinated and wormed.
  •  Microchipped.

Violet comes with her own bed and blanket, a collar, harness and leash.  Any remaining food that the foster parents have for her will also be provided.

ADOPTION FEE: $1600.00
