We hope this email finds you and your Daxie well!

Why do we need to always Fundraise so much?

The number of surrenders we are experiencing right now is unprecedented. To give you an insight into D2DR's world, presently we have in our care:-

39 PERMANENT FOSTERS - These are dogs that are unwell, from various long term illnesses like Heartworm and IVDD Surgery, Autoimmune or Heart Disease. Once cleared by the vet they might be adopted - but D2DR pays all medical costs.

13 LONG TERM FOSTERS - These are dogs that no one wants to adopt for various reasons, be it illness or behavioural issues that continue to work on - D2DR pays all medical costs, as well as Dog Behaviourist lessons.

70 FOSTERS - These are our regular surrenders - but again - all dogs get a complete Pet Health check, often needing dentals and other tests - D2DR pays all medical costs.

Recently Oscars parents who are are in their 90's could not afford to pay for health insurance or his IVDD surgery and their vet suggested Euthanasia, but a wonderful Vet Nurse reached out to D2DR and asked if we could accept him, but rest assured he was loved by his owners, and they wanted the best for Oscar.

💙

We put it out to our supporters and they chipped in and helped us pay for part of his surgery.
Oscars Dad is really missing him, but we are keeping him in the loop on his recovery, and we are going to do the best thing for Oscar moving forward.

We were still out of pocket by over $5K for Oscar, but buy purchasing a ticket in Play for Purpose you can help with our ongoing costs.

If you would like to help us raise funds to help the huge amount of Dachshunds surrendered - then Play for Purpose is a great option - click on the link below to do this. This is Oscar recovering with his Foster Carer.

 Dachshund Education

Many of us, myself included, enjoy hugging and kissing our dogs. After all, it’s how we as people show our love, devotion, affection, provide comfort and it makes us feel good - but dogs are not people and we often mistakenly just assume that they enjoy it as much as we do and that they understand what we are trying to communicate.

Some dogs may enjoy being hugged and kissed, some dogs have learnt over time to tolerate it, but there are many dogs that show clear body language signs of stress that often go completely unnoticed.
The terminology used to describe the discomfort a dog feels when being hugged is sometimes called restraint sensitivity. Many dogs feel stressed and anxious because it restricts their movement and they feel trapped.

These feelings are linked to the fight or flight response because being physically restrained by hugs or kisses can feel threatening.
Many dogs prefer the affection of gentle stroking, tummy or ear rubs or massage.
It’s so important to be aware of how our dogs are feeling by learning basic body language.
It’s one of the only ways that our dogs can communicate and we owe it to them to understand their language.
Respect a dog’s personal space. Provide a choice. Seek consent. This is what builds relationship and trust.

Save your smooches for the people in your life that enjoy them!
