Meet Frank (aka Frank the Tank): A big ball of love looking for his forever home

Quick Facts

·       Black & Tan, Smooth Hair Male Dachshund who is 7 months old.

About Frank

Frank is playful and super affectionate pup who wants attention from anyone who locks eyes with him. He is a happy, playful and curious little man who wants nothing more than to be in the presence of his humans. Whilst he is still young and has lots to learn he is showing huge progress already and is getting better at “sit” and listening for his name. Frank is presently in a foster home with 1 male Dachshund and 1 cat who he loves being around (especially the cat – Frank is only suitable to cats that are very friendly towards dogs).

Frank is not a miniature Dachshund. At 7 months old he is already taller and longer than his foster brother who is a 9kg Dachshund and he still has growing to do.

Personality Highlights

Frank is still learning to come to his name, once he realises a treats involved he will come barrelling to you. He loves exploring the yard and saying hello to every human and dog he sees. Frank will need a secure home because of his friendly nature and wanting to be surrounded by people or animals, if he hears voices nearby he wants to go to it immediately. Frank loves playing with his foster brother but is also happy to play with toys on his own as well, he seems to go for the smaller toys that he can de-fluff more than the bigger ones, Frank has shown no interest in balls or playing fetch.

He hasn’t shown huge signs of chewing however won’t hesitate to take off with a slipper if it’s lying around.

Current Training Progress

·       House Training: Very minimal accidents, well on his way to full toilet training however isn’t very good at telling you when he needs to go. When he needs to go he will wander or whimper and that’s his sign he’s trying to find somewhere to do his business. Once let outside he will do his business straight away (however can be difficult if the grass is wet). Frank lasts the night but will wake you early in the morning to go to the toilet (and to play). Frank is still working through some separation anxiety. He doesn’t like not being around his humans and will require ongoing persistence in this space however is showing signs of improvement and adjustment.

  • Lead Skills: Enjoys walks but needs improvement on pulling when he see’s someone he wants to go say hi to. He is improving a lot in the car but travels better when he has a bed/car seat to be in so he feels safe and secure.

·       Social Skills: No hesitation with human interaction at all, the more cuddles the better. Is fine with other dogs however if he gets too overexcited, he can bark (it’s a deep one) at the other dog. Zero signs of aggression towards people and other animals but as he’s still young so he can overwhelm with his excitement. Frank will jump at people to get their attention and affection and is still learning to not do this.

Daily Care

·       Diet: Loves his freshly cooked meats and will always eat this first over everything else. Has some dry food with his dinner that he leaves until last. He loves sardines.

  • Exercise: Enjoys active playtime and regular walks but does get tired as he is still young.
  • Sleep: Smothers you with cuddles as soon as you hop into bed but settles well through the night. Likes to be in the bed as he wants to be as close to you as he possibly can, will be touching you in some way throughout the night. He will sleep in the most uncomfortable looking positions or in a big ball.

·       Behaviour: Absolutely no food or toy aggression, shares well with other dogs but doesn’t understand if a dog doesn’t want to share with him.

Frank would flourish in a home that offers:

·       Patient owners committed to continuing his learning and comfortability of being without his humans

  • Frank isn’t too high energy but enjoys activity. A home with a bit of both would suit him well.
  • Canine companionship would be preferred, as he enjoys the company and snuggles of other dogs
  • A secure yard for exercise and bathroom breaks

·       Understanding that he is still young and learning

·       A home with a cat is suitable however only if they are patient and friendly towards dogs as Frank really loves his foster cat friend so much that he wants to be around her and in her space all the time.

Health Status

·       Not Desexed

  • Microchipped
  • Fully vaccinated
  • Flea and tick treated
  • Wormed
