Meet Henri is an intelligent, playful Dachshund, extremely calm, gentle, curious, patient, loving and well behaved. He loves to play and retrieve and return balls, loves playing with toys and puzzles and has easily adjusted into his Foster Home (with 2 other Italian greyhounds)
Other training
Toilet training - On-Ree is excellent, no concerns what so ever and no accidents in his Foster Home.
Social Skills - extremely social with other dogs and new dogs (not tried with cats).
Behaviour
Please do not give Henri soft toys as they will not last very long and we don't want him to ingest any of the torn product / stuffing.
He absolutely loves a bath and a back scratch / massage. He wakes up around 6.30am and is well and truly snuggled into bed before 9pm.
Diet
Blackhawk small breed dry kibble (morning and night - 12 hours apart) - each topped with a little water. Wet food toppings rotate through canned dog food, canned sardines in spring water, green beans, raw egg, boiled chicken, canned tuna in spring water, cucumber and he gets a carrot around the half way point between meals, plus treats and enjoys a dental treat (greenies petite) at night before bed. He is an enthusiastic eater who's never once turned down a treat. His favourites are cheese, rockmelon and egg and also enjoys carrots, sweet potato, pumpkin and sweet corn in moderation.
Exercise
Henri loves going on walks and drives in the car and gets very, very excited if he hears his lead jingle or the car keys being rattled. He is excellent on the lead with other dogs.
He has a cheeky personality with a lot of characters, who loves to sniff and enjoy the outdoors (also loves the indoors and the warmth of a home).
Henri loves to go for walks 4-5 times per week for approximately 45 minutes. He doesn't like dog parks and can be re-active to other dogs when walking out and about.
On a leash, he doesn't pull walks at a steady pace (loves to also sniff lots). The only time he will pull is when he sees another unknown / unfamiliar dog - his recall is poor so he should always stay on a leash. Always be careful that he doesn't slip backwards out of a harness due to his long slender body shape and short legs. If this happens, stay calm and say "stay", he is generally very good at listening and letting you put his harness back on.
A secure yard is required. Access to the yard required at all times and you will be guaranteed of no toileting accidents.
Henri’s only dislike is having his nails trimmed, especially on his back toes.
Temperament
He is a protective, food driven little guy who will bark at other dogs and at noises outside (at night or if he hears someone outside or at the door), otherwise very calm and settled, loves to follow you around. He has grown up with children and is calm and patient around children. New visitors to the home can expect to see him excited with a happy welcome with curiosity and happiness and settles within 5 -10 minutes and will return looking for a pat and a lap to sit on.
Comfort
On-Ree doesn't have any particular favourite toy but likes toys (hard toys) to play with. He snuggles under a blanket of a night and loves a heated blanket (if you have one). If he is anxious, he settles quickly with pats, cuddles, reassurance and calmness.
Tricks and Training
Henri knows how to sit, stay, paw, down, leave it and speak, along with some fun party ticks - orbit (circles you clockwise), Snoot (nose through a circle made with your fingers, balance (balance food on his head and sausage roll (rolls over but only on carpet or a rug. , and he's not asked to do it much anymore now that he is a senior.
Mealtime tricks - He has his own ritual, he is asked to paw, then waits for the cue "bon appetite" before he is allowed to eat.
Okay-go is his cue that it is safe to cross the road after being told to stay.
Consistent word training includes "yes", "good", and "uh uh", instead of "no".
Henri has beautiful eyes full of expression and character.
If you can provide a loving home and pats for Henri expect lots of unconditional love in return.
