Meet RUPERT:      A charming dachshund seeking his Forever Home…

Quick Facts:
Tan, Short Hair Male who is 3.5 years old weighing 9kg

About RUPERT:
Rupert is an intelligent and playful dachshund who combines independence with affection. His bright curious nature makes him a delightful companion, and he’s already shown tremendous progress in his foster home alongside three dachshund sisters.

Personality:
Rupert is an energetic, quick learner who responds instantly to his “Name”

Highlights:

Good on command, especially when treats are involved! While he can be independent and enjoys exploring in the back yard on his own, he also loves snuggling on the couch and sleeping in bed with his humans. He’s particularly fond of toys and zoomy playtime, though needs durable toys due to his enthusiastic chewing habits. He is not destructive, does not dig, and is not possessive. He does bark occasionally when he sees strangers walk past the house, or a bird/duck land on the fence. He has had obedience training in the past, but follows commands inconsistently.  He can be left at home with access to inside/outside and loves a treat or puzzle to keep himself occupied. He is very welcoming on return.

Current Training:
House Training – He is fully house trained, reliably using the yard during the day and night hours with one final accompanied outside visit to the toilet before bed.

Lead Skills – Enjoys walks and car rides. He is also crate trained when required.

Social Skills – He barks when meeting new people. Initially curious but warms up quite quickly to a pat. He likes children, other dogs and is cat friendly (but needs to give them space).

Daily Care:

Diet – Fed twice per day (approx. 6am & 6pm)
Breakfast is a little bbq chicken and a good handful of biscuits (Supercoat)
Dinner is a little bbq chicken, approx. 1 cup Loaf with Chicken & Veg. Sometimes a teaspoon of mashed pumpkin.
He has a slow feeder bowl and snuffle mat for hiding biscuits to keep him occupied while on his own. Can sit before serving food.
Exercise – Enjoys active play in the yard with other dogs

Sleep – Settles well through the night when sleeping with family
Behaviour – He is frightened of thunder, so he has a thundershirt to help keep calm and warm.

Rupert would flourish in a home that offers:

·      A calm, structured environment

·      Canine companionship, as he enjoys the company of other dogs

·      A secure yard for exercise and bathroom breaks

·      Understanding that he needs a little time to warm up to new people

Health Status:                  Desexed

                                                      Microchipped

                                                      Fully vaccinated (last Vax 13/1/26)

                                                      Heart wormed

                                                      Vet checked
