About Junior
Junior is a happy, playful dachshund who connects with people fast and stays close once he does. Smooth-coated and soft to touch, he's a naturally affectionate boy who thrives on genuine connection.
Personality Highlights
Junior is sharp and eager to please especially when tasty or stinky treats are on offer. He's brilliant at sit, good at stay and his recall is coming along nicely as he builds trust with a consistent owner. He adores anything with a squeaker and asks for full body cuddles, tucking his head over your shoulder, though he'll only settle into a cuddle if he's properly picked up with no part of him touching the ground. He follows his people everywhere in the sweetest buddy-like way.
Current Training Progress
House Training: 99% there and sleeps through the night with no accidents. Is still young so signs of other dogs in the house do make him want to mark his territory - but gets better by the day.
Lead Skills: Pulls a little at the start of walks while he follows scents but this would come together quickly with consistent lead training. Car rides go smoothly with a bit of chat or the radio on, he treats it like a proper conversation/sing along. BUT no howling!!
Social Skills: Warm and easy with people in the home, though a little unsure of tall or large strangers on the street. Not yet ready for off lead dog parks, but loves a street walk with some gentle verbal and physical reassurance when large dogs are nearby. Not a fan of skateboards or e-scooters, in good company there.
Daily Care & Diet: Dry food with a little something extra to make it interesting, wet food, tuna, or roast chicken all go down well, with no tummy troubles.
Exercise: Enjoys daily/twice daily walks and scent-led exploring.
Sleep: Comes for a quick cuddle and a kiss goodnight, then settles into his basket, wrapped up in his original mum's dressing gown after a few circles. Heart melting.
Behaviour: No food or toy aggression whatsoever.
Junior would flourish in a home that offers: A back garden of any size that is safe for him to roam in at any time.
A household with older primary or high school aged kids would be perfect.
It would impact his spirit/hapiness to be left at home 5 days a week, 9-5.
Owners ready to build real connection and trust with him, this is the key to training him, not submission.
Patience while his confidence grows around strangers and larger dogs.
