Colleen O'Neill's life has been a journey defined by love and resilience, thanks in no small part to her devoted family of Dachshunds. It all started in 2004, when she and her family decided to add a FURbaby to their home. After researching breeds, the decision was unanimous: a Dachshund would be the perfect addition.
When they visited a litter of Black and Tan pups, it was Bella, the runt of the litter with unique white patterns, who chose them. Despite her health challenges, including blindness by the time she was one, Bella's spirit was indomitable. To give her companionship, the family introduced a new FURsister, Pepsi Cola, in 2005.
Bella lived a beautiful, if challenging, life until she passed away in 2014, leaving a gaping void. Pepsi struggled without her soulmate, but fate had another plan. Ricky Grierson introduced them to Nacho, a Dachshund in need, reinvigorating their lives with joy and energy.
Years later, as Pepsi aged gracefully, the family welcomed Cookie Monster to keep Nacho company. Today, Nacho and Cookie are inseparable, while 'Granny' Pepsi enjoys her twilight years.
For Colleen, the journey has been as rewarding as it has been challenging. The experiences have given her a deep understanding of the complexities and joys of life with special needs pets, and it's a journey she wouldn't trade for anything. The ups and downs, the laughter and tears, have shaped her life in ways she never imagined. Through all the battles and milestones, one thing remains constant: a house filled with wagging tails, wet noses, and unconditional love.
