·       Sassy Zoe Seeking Her Forever Loving Home

Quick Facts

·       Deep rich red coat, female, smooth short haired dachshund who is 5 years young, weighing 8+kg

About Zoe

Zoe used lived with her Mum in an acreage as the only dog. When Mum got dementia, Zoe went to a bigger pack of D2D Rescue.  She is an intelligent and very playful dachshund who combines independence with affection, while occassionally maintaining her default stubbornness of the breed. Her curious nature leads her exploring the backyard for hours and when she’s indoor she’s your magic shadow who appears out of nowhere and follows you around as your delightful companion. She's already shown tremendous progress in her foster home alongside two older dachshund brothers.

Personality Highlights

Zoe is a quick learner who responds to her name. She has not been tested to the call command "come" on an off-leash walk. She can be independent and enjoys exploring the yard on her own, is able to entertain herself by playing with her toys, toss it up high or wreck it to bits. An absolute soft toys killer! Be prepared to make frequent trips to get new toys. She does well in crate and is happy to sleep in her own bed next to yours, unless, of course, you prefer to snuggling with her in yours. If you have other dogs, she respects boundaries especially on meal and snack times. She is cheeky and would love to play with similar age or younger dogs.

Current Training Progress

  • House Training: She does best  when she has access to the yard. Needs support, encouragement and supervision with pre bed-time potty and when it’s wet. She knows how to use the ramp - Yay!
  •  Lead Skills: Walks well on lead, enjoys walks and sits calmly on car rides with occasional nudge to remind you of her presence. Constant nose on the ground on walks, she may snatch scrap food she finds. A true huntress, she wants to chase birds and ducks and make them run or fly or swim. She would bark (not excessively) at big dogs on the walk, however, she would sit nicely waiting for a pat when a passer-by adoring her.

·       Social Skills: At the beginning, she will need her space in a new home. She would growl and may nip if you push her. Poor pup has been changing several homes recently, please respect and give her time. She will come around when she’s ready.  She barks alarming you when there are noises around the house, and will quiet down when you respond. Never been tested to cats.

·       Separation anxiety: never been tested to leaving her all by herself for few hours. She is fine when there is canine companion.

Daily Care

·       Diet: Breakfast: boiled chicken with Royal Canin for Dachshund kibble and sprinkle of organic psyllium husk. Evening: My Dog wet food mixed with steamed veggies and Royal Canin kibble. As an active dog, she needs access to fresh water through the day.

  • Exercise: Enjoys active playtime and regular walks. She used to be heavy, and could use to loose a bit more for health reason.
  • Sleep: Settles well through the night when sleeping with family

·       Behaviour: No food or toy aggression with other dogs. She may help herself to your food when you’re not watching. Never been tested around small children.

Zoe would flourish in a home that offers:

·       Patient owner(s)committed to continuing her house training and taking her for regular walks to achieve then maintain the healthy weight.

  • A calm, structured environment
  • Canine companionship, as she enjoys the company of other dogs.
  • A secure yard for exercise and bathroom breaks

·       Understanding that she needs time to warm up to new people

·       Desexed

  • Microchipped
  • Fully vaccinated
