About Dwight
Dwight came into foster care 7 months ago as a very shut‑down and anxious boy who struggled to trust. With patience, consistency, and love, he has made remarkable progress and is now confidently showing his quirky, affectionate personality.
One thing is non‑negotiable with Dwight — he absolutely adores men. For this reason, his forever home must include a male presence.
Dwight is a vocal dachshund who is learning how and when to use his voice. Helping him feel safe enough to express himself was the first step; now we are guiding him toward appropriate vocal behaviour. This is still a work in progress, but he is improving steadily.
Training & Progress
· House Training: Well on the way to being fully house trained. Uses the yard reliably during the day; nighttime still needs a little support.
· Lead Skills: Loves walks and car rides. Walks beautifully on lead when solo. When walking in a group, he does pull and wants to be in front — typical Dachshund confidence!
· Social Skills:
o Excellent when out in public — happy to be patted by everyone and has never shown aggression toward people or dogs outside the home.
o A local celebrity at Bunnings.
o Can be territorial when people visit the house, but this is improving with calm reassurance, structure, and consistency.
Daily Care & Personality
· Diet: A mix of raw and cooked chicken with vegetables. No food aggression observed, though separate feeding is recommended as best practice.
· Exercise: Enjoys regular walks and energetic play. He is ball obsessed — once he has it, the game is trying to get it back! Learning how to stop on cue is ongoing.
· Sleep: Settles very well overnight when sleeping with his people. Originally crate trained (door open) and slept through; now prefers snuggling in bed during the colder months and continues to sleep soundly.
· Behaviour with Other Dogs:
o Has lived happily in a large pack (up to 10 dogs).
o Can be dominant but is learning his place.
o Shows anxiety-based licking behaviours and now lovingly “cleans” the other dogs — they happily line up for it!
Dwight’s Ideal Home

· Patient, committed owners willing to continue his training and confidence-building journey (this is essential).
· A calm, structured household with people home more often than not.
· At least one male human — he truly bonds best with men.
· Friendly canine companions — he enjoys other dogs.
· A secure yard for exercise and toilet breaks.

Important Information
Dwight does have high anxiety, which can initially present as aggressive behaviour. This is usually display-based, not true aggression. He needs adopters who understand how to remain calm, diffuse situations, and gently redirect him.
Dwight is not an easy dog, and we are committed to full transparency so he can be placed in the right home the first time. He does not need medication — he needs patience, understanding, and consistent support.
In return, Dwight offers deep loyalty, affection, and a truly special bond. Watching him open up has been incredibly rewarding, and we know his best chapter is still ahead.
